The Media's Influence
The media has put negative thoughts into the minds of self-conscious teenage girls all over the world. It has plastered images of women with what it calls "perfect" bodies all over magazines, television, the Internet, etc. The media has thus put forth an unrealistic expectation of bodies toward girls. The standards of beauty are too high. Girls that do not have these types of bodies then go to unhealthy extremes just to be considered what the media considers beautiful. These extremes have even at times ended in death. Girls need to learn that there are consequences to aiming for unrealistic bodies. They need to know that a healthy and confident mind and body are beautiful.

Dolls, such as the well-known Barbie, have even been sculpted to form "ideal" body measurements. This includes having a thin waist, long legs, proportional hips and bust, and a sculpted bottom. |
The media provides an inaccurate view of women, which in turn has created many problems involving disorders and emotional risks among female viewers. Girls continue to suffer from eating disorders such as anorexia and emotional problems such as depression because of these high standards of beauty. Women everywhere are hurting from the impossible journey to get the "perfect" body.
