Ultimately, the bodies displayed in the media are not achievable. When girls cannot live up to these standards, they go into a state of depression. This is characterized by feelings of sadness, frustration, or anger that interfere with daily life. The bodies created by the media have the power to put girls into this state. This disorder leads to withdrawal, isolation, change in appetite, and even feelings of worthlessness.
This charts shows the cases of depression found in teenage girls and boys. Obviously, depression victimizes girls more than it does boys. Any guesses as to why?

Social pressure is much higher on girls that it is on boys. The physical and hormonal changes during the teenage years for girls also contributes to the girls feeling more pressure. It is crucial for girls to receive support during these year of heavy outside influences.
